Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas
Left Halloween shopping until far too late? You’re not alone. Every year we have the best intentions for our favourite fright fest…yet we never quite fulfil them. Don’t panic, however. We’ve scoured the internet for the most inspirationally easy last minute tutorials – to help you look frighteningly good without the scare of extortionate shipping costs online.
Animal dress up
Bodysuit, whiskers on face, tail and ears – done. Simple, but extremely effective if you do it well. It all depends on how in-depth you want to go. Simple whiskers and eyeliner on the nose? Or full on fur and colour? Check out this video tutorial for example from Laura Lee – a simple black top and shorts can be transformed into the most impressive tiger with the right makeup skills.
Witch
Ok, ok we know. It’s not very original, but it can be if you follow the right tutorial and play with a bit of creativity. This year it’s been a common trend of some of our favourite MUAs to experiment with the traditional and add a quirky touch of their own.
This tutorial from Lisa Potter-Dixon, for example, works as an impressive way to showcase your angelic and devilish sides (as well as your on-top makeup skills)
Wednesday Addams
If you’re like some of our team and unable to draw winged eyeliner let alone create an impressive artistic display on your face, never fear. There are several makeup-free looks that require minimum effort and look fantastic if you execute them well enough. Wednesday Addams is one of our favourites for any lucky ladies with long, dark locks (or access to a wig). Simply don your darkest high-neck dress, stick a couple of bits of paper outside the top for a shirt collar, and slip your hair back into plaited pigtails.
If you want to take the look a little bit further, try opting for a paler shade of foundation than usual and darken your brows to stand out. Voila – a simple and effective look that requires no effort and (probably) no new purchases.
Pop Art Queen
Another one for the makeup queens of the world – we ADORE the incredible pop art look made by makeup and, best of all, you can wear it with even the most plain of tops for maximum effect.
It’s all about precision and the tools you use when it comes to a look like this so try not to rush or skimp on the makeup you’re using. We’d say setting sprays are a must (and try to remember NOT to scratch your face). Take inspiration from this incredible look by Claire Dim – truly impressive stuff, and not an expensive costume in sight!
Holly Golightly
Another incredibly simple one (requiring virtually NO new purchases), but a character that’s instantly recognisable. Who doesn’t love Audrey Hepburn as the insatiable Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Based on Truman Capote’s novel of the same name, the film was reworked to be set in the midst of 60s glamour making it simple and easy to recreate. Grab your favourite classic LBD, find a mock pearl necklace, don some large sunglasses and throw your hair up into the iconic bun. Want to take it to the next level? Combine with zombie effect makeup and make a scary beauty.
