Is your bathroom on trend?
The short and sweet answer? No, it probably isn’t.
But that doesn’t matter, because being ‘on trend’ simply isn’t practical for those of us not in the design community. Trends change every year (and sometimes quicker) and keeping up with them would cost too much money and eat up too much time.
Instead, the average person should focus on updating their bathroom every now and again with ‘timeless’ updates – the kind of features that’ll never go out of style.
Here are a few cost-effective bathroom additions that we guarantee won’t go out of fashion in 6 months time.
Saving the Environment
Making your bathroom more environmentally friendly doesn’t cost much and doesn’t require too much work; simply adding a shower rose or swapping out your existing taps for a water-saving faucet can limit water wastage dramatically.
As an extra bonus, bathroom product designers have come up with some stunning, modern designs for eco-friendly products. Not only will your bathroom look fantastic, but you can also brag about your eco credentials!
Adding some colour
The standard neutral colour scheme most bathrooms share is commonplace for a reason – it’s timeless, simple and will never go out of style. That doesn’t stop it from being a tiny bit boring, however.
One solution is to dedicate a wall (or even half a wall) to a completely different colour. If you want to maintain a serene feel, a light blue would do. To make a statement, try a bold red.
The best thing about painting a single wall is that you can change the colour whenever you feel like it and completely change the overall feel of your bathroom.
Choose a nice bath tub
The humble bath tub has gone out of style over the past few years, with more people opting for bigger and bolder shower fixtures.
However, the bath tub is more important to the overall look of a bathroom than you might think. It ties everything together, providing a central point to design around.
Freestanding bath tubs are the current darling of the design world, although they aren’t the most practical of fixtures in smaller bathrooms. Simply selecting a well-designed tub made from high quality materials is enough.
Oh, and a shower will never be as relaxing as a good soak.
Let there be light
Bathrooms are as much a place to relax as they are practical, so getting the right ‘aura’ in the room is important.
Dark bathrooms are unappealing, so remove all blockades to windows and allow a little sunlight to flow in through the day. If you really want to maximise the light, position your mirror opposite a window.
For the night, choose subtle lighting over garish bulbs. Low wattage bulbs, candles or the light off an illuminated mirror can be more than enough to create your own relaxation utopia!
