Brighten your home this season.
It’s time to break out of your winter rut and get your house ready for sunnier climates and brighter days. Your house often reflects the season with decorative items, blankets, bedding and smells. Often, a house in the middle of winter will have a crackling fire, multiple fluffy blankets, warm lighting, cinnamon smells and darker bedding to get you through the depths of the cold. With Spring coming into effect, here are some updates you can do to give a new lease of life to your house.
BEDDING & SOFT FURNISHINGS
With many fabrics being relatively heavy for the spring, it’s time to update the wools, tweeds and velvets. Create a pillow collection which can be rotated throughout the year to accommodate seasons. Swap out the heavy and dark for light linen, printed cotton covers in bright/refreshing colours. A simple swap of furnishings can make all the difference. The same can be applied to your bedding; there should always be multiple sets which can be swapped for when it’s time to wash the sheets, but one set for Spring/Summer and one for Autumn/Winter will also be a great way to have a permanent update that you can roll out each year. Be sure to have some lighter throws which can replace the heavier ones for your bedroom.
GREEN, GREEN, GREEN.
An obvious update, but one that is so often overlooked. Plants will bring life into your home, as well as a splash of beautiful green, which would otherwise be missing from your home (as green tends to be a bit garish in such a bright shade!). Succulents, palms, cacti and tough plants alike are perfect for the house, often requiring little maintenance; a simple water once per week, good amount of light and a consistent temp that doesn’t drop below 13 degrees, nor rise about 30, is all you need to keep your plants in tip-top shape, whilst adding some all important nature to your house.
COLOUR POP
Another easy way to brighten up your home; colourful accessories. Whether it be vases, curtains, candles, or some fresh colourful books, you can update your room in minutes. The addition of spring/summer flowers are always welcomed. Ranunculus, peonies, tulips, hyacinths and sunflowers are definitely blooms to look forward to in the coming seasons; and ones that will really brighten up your house. A great way to preserve Spring flowers is to press some of the more colourful blooms and once they’re dry, pop them in a glass frame; they will forever remain a part of your decor, all year round!
SCENTS
As previously mentioned, winter can often be flooded with berry, cinnamon and wood scents, all designed to keep you warm and feeling cosy. But when you are in need of a refreshing smell to assist open windows and sunshine flooding into the room, it’s time for a scent change-up. Stick to breezy laundry smells, seaside mists and citrus scents to fill the room with a sunny warmth that encourages fresh air. Reed diffusers are a great option to get a continual waft of spring through your house, as well as linen sprays to keep your bedding fresh. Your possibilities are endless, when it comes to pumping fresh smells into your home.
